Athletic Newham ‘A’ 2-1 Newham Wanderers

Report done by:- Daniel Balogun

We are playing at home against Newham Wanderers FC which meant it was a Newham derby so it was personal and bragging right were on the cards so it was a must win game for many reasons as we were also looking to get our first win of the season.

FIRST HALF:

We scored twice within the first 10 minutes of the game.
The first half was great footwork by our defensive midfielder who eventually put in a quality through ball to our no.9 Dan who finished well in a 1v1 situation with the keeper to make it 1-0 to Athletic Newham A FC.
5 minutes later Mario scored a top quality goal that went into the top right hand corner of the goal to make it 2-0 to Athletic Newham A FC.

We had other chances to extend the lead one of them being that our DM found himself in a 1v1 with the keeper but hit it straight at him.

Newham Wanderers ended up getting one goal back with good shot by their midfielder that hit the inside of the post before going in to make it 2-1 to Athletic Newham A FC.

That’s how the half ended.

SECOND HALF:

We started the half well but as the half went on we were losing the midfield battle on multiple occasions so the manager had to make substitutions to regain control of it again and see off the game. In the last minute of the game we conceded a penalty through a soft foul in the penalty box by our centre back which some refs would give it and some wouldn’t be but unfortunately for us it was given.
Their captain took it and missed it to keep our lead and win the game as that is how the game ended.

MOTM: Mario. He was a constant threat in the game and scored a top quality goal to win the game.

It was a hard fought and well deserved derby win against a good opposition and we wish them all the best in the season.

We continue to work hard in improve our form in the league. Our next two fixtures will be the Fenton and London Senior cup competitions and we plan to do well in both of them.
